Take 5 with... Agnese Perri from Our Simple Cottage!

Agnese Perri

WELCOME TO WOMB'S WEEKLY "TAKE 5 WITH..." SERIES. ROUGHLY ONCE A WEEK WE WILL FEATURE A SHORT INTERVIEW WITH A HK-BASED CONSCIOUS PERSONALITY.

THIS WEEK WE PRESENT TO YOU: Agnese Perri from OUR SIMPLE COTTAGE!

1. Tell us a bit about yourself, where are you from, where did you study, and why did you choose to be based in Hong Kong (at least for now)?
I was born here in HK hence why I’m here! But, originally I’m half Italian half Australian, pretty mixed.
I’ve done all my studying here but will (hopefully) be going off to Australia for university coming February 2019.

2. When and how did you come up with the idea for “Our Simple Cottage”?
We went to a talk by Hannah Cheung and Paola Cortese all about zero waste in Hong Kong, we’d been plastic free for about 8 months and when we learnt about zero waste that night we never looked back. No one I knew had ever heard of this, and my lifestyle stuck out like a sore thumb within my community. I quickly had many people curious and asking questions about how I lived, and my mum finally convinced Alex and I to try making a blog so that we could share easily with all these people how it could be done. Ultimately us being zero waste will have no real impact on the planet, what does however is us showing other people that it is possible and the collective work of the masses is what will truly impact our planet. This was the core reason as to why we started ‘Our Simple Cottage’.

3. What are your thoughts on waste and pollution in Hong Kong?
Like everywhere in the world Hong Kong has a huge waste problem, and I don’t think it’s any more or less than most other areas. There is so much Hong Kong can do to lower its impact on the environment, but the zero waste and green movement in Hong Kong has blown up so much in the past year that I’m hopeful. I think it will take a lot before the government makes any real change to their system, but I hope that the passionate people of Hong Kong will push for legislations that promote a more sustainable city. It can be overwhelming at times to live in a place where waste and pollution is such a big problem but I try to focus on what I can do to contribute and have a positive approach.

4. What's your personal battle? How do you make your everyday life greener?
I make conscious and intentional decisions every day to live my life in a way that is most considerate of our environment and the other beings on it as best to my ability. We all have things to work on, and I’m not perfect, but it’s a journey with no ending so I will always have something more I could be doing.

5. What’s next for you? What interesting projects are you working on?
Ooo I love this question, well in life I am currently applying to university and am pursuing a career in theatre so that is super exciting and will move me to my next journey in life. Within all things 'Our Simple Cottage' (I haven’t released this yet but) I am planning on doing some individual sessions with people helping them lower waste in their home in a personalised and detailed manner, so stay tuned for that! I’m always active on Instagram and our blog so if anyone is interested in seeing that pan out or generally lowering their waste then you can catch me on there!
